Italian Food Tour
I love Italian food! My favorite dessert of all time is Tiramisu. I could eat pizza and pasta everyday, three times a day, forever. Italy was a dream come true for me. If you love to eat read on for recommendations on some of the best food I’ve ever had. Lets start from the beginning.
My very first Italian pizza was actually at the airport in Rome. It was the size of my head and yes I did eat it for breakfast.
After we finally arrived in Naples we made a quick stop to La Masadona. This is the home of the fried pizza crust and even though it’s fried it is incredibly light and not too heavy.
After we had lunch we began our trip to the villa that we rented in Sorrento. My friend always dreamt of going to the local markets, buying fresh food and cooking in a villa in Italy. So thats exactly what we did.
There is nothing like fresh Italian buffalo mozerella.
The Villa that we stayed in was not in a very tourist packed area but it was right next to one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at- Tramonto Rosso Ristorante. Every single thing we ordered was delicious and the prices were beyond affordable.
We loved this place so much that we actually ate here twice. Every other restaurant that we tried did not compare to the food they serve here. If you are ever in Massa Lubrense you NEED to come here.
The other restaurant that we really enjoyed was Ristorante Da Cardillo. The food was amazing but I don’t think I will ever live down the fact that I fell asleep at the table here. (Don’t judge, spending the entire day at a pool party and then eating a carb heavy dinner will do that to you!)
There is also one other restaurant that we ate at in Positano but I can’t remember the name (I’m sorry, I didn’t know I was going to start a travel blog when I went to Italy). Lets just say I got really friendly with some Octopus legs.
On your way out of the Amalfi Coast I would highly recommend spending a day in Naples. Why, you ask? Well simply because Naples is where you will find the best pizza in the world at L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele. If this place sounds familiar to you its because it is also mentioned in the book Eat, Pray, Love. There is always a long line of people waiting to eat there, but don’t worry, it moves quickly. They only offer two types of pizza, the Margherita and the Marinara. The crust is light and the pizza has just the right amount of sauce and mozzarella. I dream of this pizza to this day.
If you are not impressed with Pizza da Michele then head over to Sorbillo. Some people may argue that Sorbillo has the best pizza in Naples. I’ll let you decide for yourselves.
When you walk through the streets of Naples you will be surrounded by endless gelato, pastry shops, and delicious street food.
I’ll cover the food in Rome in my next post, stay tuned!
